Tekken 7 Is Adding The Walking Dead's Negan

During this year's EVO Championship Series a number of companies made a number of announcements for a number of games. That may seem like a silly bit of reductionism for a ton of content that came out of the annual eSports fighting game competition, but it sums up the general gist that a lot of companies in the fighting game scene had a lot of big announcements to share during EVO. One of the biggest announcements to come out of this year's tournament series took place right after the Tekken 7 championships wrapped up, where producer Katsuhiro Harada came on stage to reveal some brand new characters for the game, one of which included Negan from The Walking Dead.

The trailer was posted up on a number of channels, including the Tekken channel and Bandai Namco's channel. Most surprisingly, though, the trailer was also uploaded to the AMC YouTube channel, where it gave gamers and The Walking Dead fans an opportunity to check out the teaser.

It starts with Negan whistling, and we get a few quick flashes of his belt, his iconic leather jacket, and Lucille the baseball bat. We then hear Jeffrey Dean Morgan say "Little pig, little pig... let me in!"

A bright light comes on behind a silhouette of Negan, which appears to be a 3D model for Tekken 7 that's based on the actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The trailer then proceeds to say that you can breathe, you can blink and you can cry, because "you're all going to be doing that."

It's an interesting choice for Tekken 7 no doubt. The trailer rounds out with a logo for the cross-branded content, letting fighting game fans know that Negan is joining the fight as part of the Season Pass 2 characters.

The Season Pass 2 will contain six characters in total, three of which includes Anna Williams, Lei Wulong, and Negan. All three characters were revealed during the EVO Championship Series after the Tekken 7 tournament rounded out. Fans were pretty excited to see Anna return, as she had been a hugely requested character for the Tekken 7 roster, but Lei Wulong got the biggest pop since he was one of the original cast of characters from way back in the PSX days.

Both Anna and Lei managed to receive some gameplay footage, showcasing their moves and abilities, but Negan was the only one who received a teaser trailer and no gameplay footage at all.

While a lot of fans were excited about the guest character stepping into the fray, many more were a bit confounded because they felt that Negan was a better fit for NetherRealm Studios' Mortal Kombat series. It's hard to deny that Negan would have been an absolutely perfect fit for Mortal Kombat given that his rough-and-tumble, bat-based fighting style would be like a baseball in a mitt when it comes to Mortal Kombat. That's not to mention that they could have lifted his Fatality right from the TV show.

The Season Pass 2 for Tekken 7 featuring Negan is set to arrive "soon". We still don't know who the other three characters are, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.
