Crash Speeds To The Top

The beautifully tragic film Crash has been voted best movie of 2005 by the African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA). The ensemble drama, which has garnered an influx of praise since its debut in May, deals with intersecting characters in Los Angeles struggling with racial prejudices.

The other films receiving their top honors include:

The Constant Gardener

Good Night & Good Luck

Brokeback Mountain

Syriana

Walk The Line

Hustle & Flow

Capote

Batman Begins

North Country

"The films selected for 2005 boldly reflect a bridge towards tolerance", said AAFCA President Gil Robertson IV this week. In addition to John Singleton scoring the achievent award, the group chose Terrence Howard as best actor for Hustle & Flow and Felicity Huffman for best actress in Transamerica. "Although our organization pays special attention to work by artists of African descent, in the end, merit carries the day and Ms. Huffman is undeniably amazing in this role," Robertson said.

This is a pretty solid list, recognizing a variety of movie genres often neglected. It's certainly refreshing to see Batman Begins on there and not the critics' darling Munich. Give it up for diversity.
