Interview: Cyrus Directors Jay And Mark Duplass On How They're Staying Themselves

Amid the rush of Sundance back in January I got the chance to sit down with half of the directing team behind one of my favorite movies of the festival, Cyrus. Mark Duplass and his brother Jay had been Sundance stalwarts ever since their first short premiered at the festival, and it was fun talking to Mark (Jay was off doing press elsewhere) about the experience of showing up there with Cyrus, a movie that didn't just star bona fide movie stars-- John C. Reilly, Marisa Tomei, Jonah Hill and Catherine Keener-- but was backed by Fox Searchlight, and therefore guaranteed a release date.

Now that release has come, and on Friday the rest of the country will get to see the hilarious and dark movie that delighted everyone at Sundance. I got to sit down again with Mark Duplass, this time joined by Jay, to talk more about the film, their experience not marketing one of their movies for the first time, and how they're not all that worried about becoming sell-outs now that a big studio is distributing their movies. Check out my first interview with Mark here if you want to feel super prepared, then watch my 10 minutes or so with the brothers in the video below.
