Karate Kid Remake Outsourced To China

OK, it's official-- we are outsourcing everything possible to China. Or the Smith family. The powerful combination of the world's fastest-growing superpower and the insanely photogenic progeny of Will and Jada is coming together in a remake of The Karate Kid, which will star Will's son Jaden. Will is also on board as a producer, and he revealed to MTV that the remake will take the action from America to China.

“We’re making it with the China Film Group, so it’ll be based in Beijing. Mr. Miyagi was originally Japanese, so there’ll be a Chinese adaptation to it.” Wait, a Chinese adaptation of a story about karate? Apparently, Will says it's not such a crazy idea after all. '“Fortunately, karate is originally a Chinese art form, so that’s the area we’re playing around in.” MTV adds that karate is based upon Kenpo, a Chinese fighting style.

I can't figure out how on earth this story is going to work, casting Jaden Smith as a kid living in China and trained in karate by a wise old Chinese man. But I've pretty much learned better than to doubt Will Smith, because he can make pretty much anything and get people to come out to see it. Whether his kids have inherited that magical ability remains to be seen, but I'm not willing to bet against them just yet.
