Legends of Tomorrow ended its third season with a wild finale that saw the Legends defeating the terrifying demon Mallus by summoning a giant version of the stuffed animal Beebo, who came to life like an Arrow-verse version of the Ghostbusters Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Although the Legends did manage to take out Mallus, the finale cliffhanger revealed that they sprung more than the ancient time demon out of his cage when they set Mallus free. Constantine showed up to drop a dragon head at their feet, and we could only speculate what happens next. Now, The CW has released a plot description for Season 4, and it explains what's to come as well as how Matt Ryan will take part.

As it turns out, when Sara and the Legends messed with time to release and defeat Mallus, the barrier between worlds "softened." That softening resulted in "Fugitives" infecting history, which already sounds bad enough. To make things worse, the Fugitives aren't just anachronistic people causing trouble in the wrong time, as we've seen before. No, these fugitives are magical creatures from legends, myths, and fairytales. Although they were once banished from our world, they're now able to return. The Time Bureau isn't exactly filled with magic experts (and most of the agents are probably still occupied with fixing Legends' anachronisms), so the Legends turn to their old pal Constantine. Having a demonologist on hand might give them an edge on the Fugitives.

The news that Constantine will have a part to play in Season 4 shouldn't come as a shock to Legends of Tomorrow fans, as it was announced back in March that Matt Ryan would join the series as a regular if it was renewed for a fourth season. Constantine had a number of memorable appearances during the third season, not the least of which was the cliffhanger in which he dumped a severed dragon head at the feet of the Legends as they attempted to vacation in Aruba. That said, there was no way to say how exactly he would fit in with Legends of Tomorrow. When Wally West joined the crew, he didn't get a major story arc revolving around him. It sounds like Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 will turn Constantine into one of the most important members of the Legends' team.

Changes are in store for the Legends as a whole, so Constantine's presence may not actually rock the boat all that much. According to Legends of Tomorrow executive producer Phil Klemmer, a Legend or two will break bad in Season 4. It's too early to say if these Legends will go full villain or just lean into a sketchier way of doing things, but it should change the status quo significantly. One dearly departed character may appear alive as well. The only bad news is that we have a while to wait before Legends of Tomorrow returns to the airwaves in the fall.

When Legends does make it back to the small screen, fans will find it on a new night. New episodes of Legends of Tomorrow will air on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. It's not the only Arrow-verse series to get a schedule change, and you can find out more on The CW's 2018-2019 fall TV schedule.
