Vin Diesel’s XXX looked like it was going to be another major franchise for the actor, but when he was unable to return for the sequel, the series went in a different direction, that eventually put it on the shelf. However, as the subtitle of the upcoming film tells us, The Return of Xander Cage is coming, and with production about to get under way, the actor is treating us to an image that implies Cage's life may be in danger. Although, he appears to like it.
Posted to his own Facebook page, the image shows Vin Diesel and one of his co-stars, each holding a knife to each other's throat. While this may be from the set of the XXX: The Return of Xander Cage we expect it’s not actually a shot from the film, as the grin on Vin Diesel’s face just throws everything off. We know Xander Cage is a tough guy, but one doesn’t usually smile when one has a knife to one’s throat. Just a thought.
The lovely lady threatening Vin Diesel’s life is his newest co-star, former Miss Universe contestant Ariadna Gutierrez. Gutierrez achieved a measure of world wide fame recently when Miss Universe pageant host Steve Harvey accidently announced her as the winner when she was actually the first runner up. The error went viral and has become a meme unto itself since then. While Gutierrez was only the first runner up for the beauty pageant, a consolation prize playing opposite Vin Diesel isn’t a bad way to go. According to reports, Gutierrez’s character will play the love interest for Xander Cage.
While Vin Diesel will be the star of XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, the story will actually focus on a team that Cage assembles to take down a threat. In addition to Ariadna Gutierrez, the film will also co-star Orange is the New Black’s Ruby Rose, and Ice Cube, who will be reprising his role from the last film in the series XXX: State of the Union. Samuel L. Jackson will also be back reprising his role from both films. XXX 3 has certainly put together a strong cast. We hope there will be enough action to go around.
XXX: The Return of Xander Cage is currently planning a January 2018 release date. With production looking to start soon that feels like an awfully long time before we’ll see Xander Cage again. But hey, they’ll be a whole other Fast & Furious movie in between now and then to keep us busy.
