Hugh Jackman's Barnum Movie Musical May Have Just Cast Another Female Lead, Get The Details

Hugh Jackman

P.T. Barnum has gone down in history as one of the world's most famous entertainers, and next year, his life's story will be told in the blockbuster biopic musical, The Greatest Showman on Earth. We've known for a while that Hugh Jackman will play the eponymous circus founder, but in the last couple months, the movie has been building quite a cast. Most recently, it was reported that Michelle Williams had been enlisted, but now there's word that K.C. Undercover star Zendaya may also be joining the production.

Zendaya is currently in negotiations to star as one of the major characters in The Greatest Showman on Earth. If cast, according to THR, she will play a trapeze artist who Zac Efron's character, a playwright who becomes Barnum's right-hand man, becomes to attracted to. The article also lists Michelle Williams as being Barnum's love interest. Zendaya is the fourth cast member to join/be in strong contention for The Greatest Showman on Earth, a movie that's been in development for years, but is finally picking up steam.

Zendaya

The majority of Zendaya's acting career so far has been through Disney Channel programming. She currently plays K.C. Cooper on K.C. Undercover, and has appeared on Good Luck Charlie, A.N.T. Farm and the Original Movie Zapped. However, she is starring in Spider-Man: Homecoming next year as "Michelle," which may be a pseudonym for someone more important from the comics. That, and The Greatest Showman on Earth, should be beneficial in establishing her as a rising star in Hollywood. She's also scored fame as a singer with singles like "Swag it Out" and "Something to Dance For."

While exact plot details have yet to be revealed, The Greatest Showman on Earth will follow P.T. Barnum as he built his infamous circus, which is known nowadays as the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Although he primarily referred to himself as a showman, Barnum also dabbled in being a businessman, author and politician, and he was also notorious for his hoaxes. Michael Gracey is directing the movie, while Toy Story 3's Michael Arndt is penning the script. The movie's original songs will be written by Justin Paul and Benj Pasek, who previously worked on the stage musical adaptations of James and the Giant Peach and A Christmas Story.

The Greatest Showman on Earth will pull back the curtain in theaters Christmas Day 2017. We'll bring you more information about the movie as it trickles in, but for now, let us know what you think about Zendaya possibly coming aboard in the comments below.
