Helen Mirren is an absolute legend, full stop. After decades of distinction in the arts, she has continued to impress and astonish with each passing moment. It is also an inescapable fact that Dame Mirren is, in fact, absolutely beautiful. However, this shouldn't be used as an opportunity to claim this beauty as any sort of weakness, as she will not fail to put you in your place. Nowhere is this more apparent than in a classic interview with British chat show legend Michael Parkinson, which has been making the rounds as of late, and can be seen below.
The Wrap picked up on this video, via the Facebook page Babe, and it's an absolute joy to watch. While Parkinson doesn't seem to be trying to insult Mirren at face value level, his question about an actor's "physical attributes" interfering with their performance commit that sin in a backhanded fashion. But instead of simply getting upset with her host, Dame Mirren not only parses his statement in order to get more damning details, she eloquently labels this sort of questioning as flat out boring. Let this be a lesson to all celebrities, or anyone who has to endure such ridiculous questions: trolling your host is not only more fun, it teaches them not to do it again that much more effectively.
While we're more prone to see such shut downs in modern media, this appearance dates back to 1975, when these sorts of events were comparatively far and few between. This is especially true considering that Helen Mirren was so early on in her career as an actor, an experienced host such as Michael Parkinson probably thought his line of questioning was more of a soft ball for a young talent just happy to be there. Little did Sir Parkinson know he was about to receive a bit of a grilling, from a woman who would only further develop into a powerhouse of acting talent both on and off stage.
Let's not forget, this is the Helen Mirren that after winning an Academy Award for playing the Queen of England wanted to be in a Fast and Furious film. And not only that, but she got her wish, and is going to appear in Fast 8 next April, alongside Vin Diesel. She's played everything from royalty to spies, with even a role as a supercomputer in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy occupying her resume. And yet, throughout all of that time, her beauty has not diminished, and her career never questioned as a result of said beauty being present.
Helen Mirren has been, and always will be, one of those actors who will always pique our curiosity with each new role she signs onto. Though after watching this video, we can't help but want a rematch between Dame Mirren and Sir Parkinson, in a no-holds barred match of wits and conversation. For now though, we'll have to settle with keeping ourselves occupied while waiting to see Helen Mirren join the Fast 8 crew when the film debuts on April 14th, 2017.
Helen Mirren likely wasn't the first actor to be asked about her breasts, and she certainly wouldn't be the last. In fact, the new Wonder Woman has already gone on record about how she feels about her body, and people who don't think she has the right body for the part.
