New Guardians of The Galaxy 2 Image Shows An Adorable Baby Groot

If you've been paying any attention to the world of TV and film, you'll notice that superhero films, especially within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are everywhere. The shared universe currently has 14 films currently released, with a ton of more planned for the future. One of the most popular entries into the MCU is Guardians of the Galaxy, which is set to return with its sequel in May. The first trailer was recently released, resulting in anticipation for the sequel reaching an all-time high.

The folks at Marvel seem to understand this, and have released a new image of everyone's favorite living tree: Baby Groot. Check it out below.

Doesn't that just break your heart?

This new image, which comes to us from Marvel's official Twitter page, is perhaps the closest look at baby Groot that we've seen thus far. While Groot definitely had some scene stealing moments in first trailer, this image really shows every nook and cranny on his little tree face. It's not clear what Groot is looking at in the image, but his eyes are wide with wonder. Additionally, the giant eyes also seem filled with tears, although they might just might be glossy in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The new baby Groot image comes to us in association with Marvel Studio Hero Acts. Hero Acts is a new charity that focuses on bringing hope and joy to children around the world. You can currently get involved in their initiatives through a new contest; the prize is a trip to the red carpet premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. All you have to do is post a photo of yourself using their Marvel specific filters. For every photo submitted, money will be donated and you will have an entry to win.

Baby Groot is perhaps the most popular character heading into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While screen time is shared with other hilarious characters like Drax and Star-Lord, the baby version of Groot quickly stole the show in the final moments of the first film. After sacrificing himself to save the group, Rocket planted what was left of his friend in a pot. But as Guardians came to a close, we saw Groot grow and quickly start messing with Drax by dancing his little heart out. Now Groot has gotten a bit older, but is still pint sized and hilarious.

It should be interesting to see how Groot is utilized in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While still a member of the team, Groot has the emotional maturity of a child. He'll likely no longer be the muscle behind the operation, and will have to be closely monitored by his buddy Rocket Raccoon. Will we see a fully grown Groot by the time the movie ends? We'll just have to wait and see.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will fly into theaters on May 5th, 2017.
