Celine Dion Returning To Beauty And The Beast, This Time With A Different Song

Beauty and the Beast

Disney has produced some memorable songs in its day -- songs so catchy, they burrow into your brain and force you to hum along for the rest of the day -- and one of its best soundtracks belongs to Beauty and the Beast. That movie has some serious Broadway-style song power and the upcoming live action adaptation has a lot to live up to in that department. To help them accomplish that, the film has recruited Celine Dion, a veteran from the original soundtrack, to come back, but this time, with an all new song.

Disney has revealed that Celine Dion, who performed "Beauty and the Beast" alongside Peabo Bryson in the original animated film, has been recruited for 2017's Beauty and the Beast soundtrack. The team behind the 2017 adaptation hope to catch lightning in a bottle once again. Celine will lend her pipes to "How Does a Moment Last Forever," one of the original songs created for the adaptation. The song was written by Disney veterans and Oscar-winning songwriters Tim Rice (The Lion King) and Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin). Portions of "How Does a Moment Last Forever" will be played intermittently throughout the film, while Dion's full version will play during the end credits sequence.

Back in 1991, a still relatively unknown Celine Dion lent her voice to "Beauty and the Beast," the title song of the animated classic in the film. The duet (performed with Peabo Bryson) went on to become an instant classic, and won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and three Grammy Awards. Dion's version of the song plays during the end credits of the original film; Angela Lansbury sang the version played during the ballroom sequence, which she famously did in one take. Dion's more radio friendly version is also the only single released from the original 1991 soundtrack.

So far, everything is looking pretty good for Beauty and the Beast, a film that people are clearly excited to see, given theYouTube views of its trailers. It's hard to imagine any new song reaching the same status as anything on the original soundtrack, but getting Celine Dion on board is usually never a bad idea.

To get those 1991 nostalgia feels going, here's the original music video for "Beauty and the Beast" with Dion and Bryson.

Beauty and the Beast is directed by Bill Condon and stars Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Ewan McGregor, Emma Thompson, Josh Gad, Ian McKellan, Stanley Tucci, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The film will finally hit theaters on March 17.
