One Baywatch Star Wants To Play The DCEU's Batgirl

Priyanka Chopra

Warner Bros isn't wasting time with filling out the rest of the DCEU. Justice League will be here soon enough, and it also has Aquaman, The Flash, Nightwing, the Batman solo movie, Shazam, and Gotham City Sirens coming, to only name a few. Joss Whedon's Batgirl movie is also on the way, to the delight of Batman fans. The fandom haven't hesitated to offer up their own casting choices, while some actors are making sure that their interest is noted. Having just starred in Baywatch, Priyanka Chopra is voicing her interest in playing the role of Barbara Gordon in Batgirl.

My dream part is, now that I'm working in America, I definitely want to do a superhero part. When I think of American movies, they've had superheroes for aeons right? So I definitely want to play a superhero and I want to have an interesting super power. I don't know... Batgirl would be so cool!

While doing the press rounds for Baywatch, Priyanka Chopra told OK! Magazine that she was interested in playing a superhero. Before coming to Hollywood, Chopra was a figure in Bollywood films. Now that she's doing more work in America, she's ready for the opportunity to play a superhero. Chopra explicitly pointed out Batgirl as one she's loved to do. The Batgirl movie was something of a surprise announcement from Warner Bros and DC Films, especially coupled with the fact that Joss Whedon was on board to write and direct.

Following her role as the villain Victoria Leeds in Baywatch, Chopra revealed that she was in talks for a number of films, though no one has reached out to her about playing a DC hero. Considering her past work, Chopra could be a great fit for Barbara Gordon. Chopra was introduced to American audiences in the ABC drama Quantico, where she plays a capable and strong-willed character while kicking a fair amount of butt. Her role in Baywatch was less action-oriented than some of her co-stars, but she was frequently cited in reviews as being a high mark of the movie.

Priyanka Chopra should have no problem handling Batgirl, but it all depends on what direction Joss Whedon wants to take the character. Early reports claimed that the story would take most of its inspiration from the New 52 Batgirl series, where Barabara Gordon finally recovers from a spine wound and resumes her superhero identity. If Chopra doesn't fit the bill, then she's always got a shot at one of the other hundreds of superhero films in development at any given time.

We've got quite a while before we can expect to see Batgirl in theaters but stay tuned for updates. If you'd like to see what Priyanka Chopra is capable, go see her (and The Rock) in Baywatch, which is in theaters now.
