How Big Spider-Man's Role Will Be in Avengers: Infinity War

Spider-Man in the Homecoming movie

The public hasn't even seen Spider-Man: Homecoming yet, but some eyes are already looking ahead to next year, when Spider-Man will be swinging into Avengers: Infinity War. With such a large cast of characters, the Wall-Crawler obviously won't get to shine as much as he will in his solo movie, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that Spidey's screen time in the third Avengers movie will be roughly about the same as it was in Captain America: Civil War last year. When asked what kind of role Spider-Man would have in Infinity War, Feige said:

I think it might feel bigger a little bit because of Homecoming and because of what people know from it, but it's about on par with [Civil War].

Despite being introduced in a movie that already starred 11 other superheroes, including fellow newcomer Black Panther, Tom Holland's Peter Parker left a memorable impression in Captain America: Civil War. His total screen time in the 2016 Marvel blockbuster added up to roughly 20 minutes, but between meeting Tony Stark for the first time and later jumping into the airport battle in his brand-new Spider-suit, those minutes were wisely used. So according to Kevin Feige, we can expect see about that same amount of Spidey in Avengers: Infinity War, only we'll be much more familiar with this iteration of the character after watching him in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

While no specific plot details for Avengers: Infinity War have been revealed yet, the story will revolve around the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and other prominent heroes joining forces to battle Thanos, who wants to bend reality to his will using the Infinity Stones. Peter Parker's accomplished a lot in his short tenure as Spider-Man, from aiding the pro-Sokovia Accords superheroes to taking on The Vulture and his gang, but facing a warlord desperate for unlimited power is an entirely different kind of experience for him. Heck, it will be challenging for all the participating heroes, but for Spider-Man in particular, it's a big leap from dealing with thieves using advanced technology to a full-blown alien invasion.

Of course, if you've been paying attention to the Avengers: Infinity War castings, you also know that some of these heroes' supporting characters will also appear. On the topic of if any other Spider-Man: Homecoming characters would appear in Infinity War, Kevin Feige told Fandango:

There's a pretty big crew already in those movies, but you might keep an eye out.

I can see it now: Peter's at school when Thanos and his forces start to attack Earth, forcing the teen to sneak out and suit up to join Iron Man and the other heroes, thus leaving Ned to make an excuse for his absence.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018, but before that, you can watch the next chapter of Peter Parker's superhero journey unfold when Spider-Man: Homecoming is released on July 7.
