What Ming-Na Wen Thinks About Playing Mulan Again In Wreck-It Ralph 2

Mulan

After spending his first movie jumping around from video game to video game inside the same arcade, Wreck-It Ralph will be venturing outside of this community and venturing into the wider world of the internet for his upcoming sequel. Ralph and his friends will be meeting a lot of new faces in Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, but quite a few of those folks won't be new to the average moviegoer. Last summer, it was announced that all the Disney Princesses would appear in the sequel, and most of them will be voiced by their original actresses. This includes Ming-Na Wen reprising Fa Mulan, and now that Wreck-It Ralph 2 is less than 12 months away from release, the actress is eager for the masses to see how her popular character fits into the story. Here's how she put it to us:

I can't wait to see it. It's a very funny moment between the princesses, and I love Wreck-It Ralph, so I'm excited to see how it's all incorporated.

I spoke with Ming-Na Wen this past weekend at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in Portland, Oregon, and while she primarily keeps busy nowadays playing Melinda May on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., she was able to pop in to voice Mulan for Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Although Wen has reprised Mulan in a direct-to-video sequel, animated TV shows and video games, this will be her first time playing the character again in a theatrical setting since the Mulan movie was released 20 years ago. It helps that Wen was already a fan of Wreck-It Ralph, so getting to appear in the sequel and reprise one of her most well-known roles is doubly cool.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 will see Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz venturing into the internet six years after the events of the first movie so they can find a replacement part to fix the Sugar Rush game. During their journey, Vanellope will cross paths with Mulan and the other Disney Princesses and get to spend some time with the other royal ladies. Although the Princesses won't play major roles in the sequel's overall story, their extended cameos will help Vanellope work through some conflict she's having with her friends.

The Disney Princesses won't be the only characters part of the overall Disney "family" to appear in Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Princess Leia, Yoda, C-3PO and R2-D2 will represent the Star Wars franchise, while Iron Man and Gamora will be standing in for the world of Marvel. But not to worry, there will be several original characters introduced in Wreck-It Ralph 2. Taraji P. Henson is voicing a trendy algorithm call Yesss, while James Corden and Ana Ortiz have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 hits theaters on November 21. Don't forget to look through our Disney movies guide to see what other projects the Mouse House has coming up, as well as our 2018 premiere guide to find out what non-Disney movies are being released this year.
