John Krasinski's A Quiet Place Has Screened, Here's What People Are Saying

A Quiet Place

The last couple years have proven to be a renaissance of sorts for horror movies. Not only are high-quality, surprisingly good sequels/prequels to classics winning audiences over, but original low budget movies are making a serious impact as well. Look no further than Get _Out as an example of the pinnacle of a new wave of horror. And now it seems like A Quiet Place_ is the next in line for massive acclaim. Directed by John Krasinski, the silent horror film screened for audiences at SXSW and early reactions indicate that this film is really, really good.

A Quiet Place is set in a post-apocalyptic society where humanity must live in silence in order to avoid deadly, man-eating creatures who hunt solely by sound. The film follows a family -- played by real-life husband and wife John Krasinski and Emily Blunt -- as they try to go about their everyday lives with their children while living in constant silence (and fear). The movie comes from Krasinski, who doesn't especially scream "horror" due to his image as Jim from The Office. However, early reactions on Twitter claim that Krasinski totally knows what he's doing, and has created a genuinely frightening movie.

Due to the movies use of silence, it's easy to wonder how exactly the scares will work, or if it's a gimmick that will wear thin over the course of the movie. According to one reviewer, the silence is incredibly effective throughout the movie. It only makes every scare twice as big and nerve-wracking. Plus, it sounds like this is a movie that is best seen with an audience.

Other moviegoers agreed that the movie is terrifying, and that it will leave stomachs in knots. One reviewer went as far as to say that she barely breathed throughout the whole movie.

Obviously, when it comes to horror movies, it has to be scary, which A Quiet Place seems to achieve in spades. However, the movie is also getting lots of praise for its acting and direction. John Krasinski is getting a lot of credit for making such an entertaining thrill ride, while Emily Blunt and child actors Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds are singled out for their good acting.

All in all, A Quiet Place sounds really awesome, and a treat for horror fan. I am now personally very excited to see this in theaters when it comes out on April 6, 2018.
