Upcoming Chris Pratt Movies: A List Of Films Heading Into Theaters

Although he made a name for himself as Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation, Chris Pratt has come a long way since he acted as the front man for Mouse Rat. In fact, he's become a full-fledged movie star and one of Hollywood's top actors named Chris. His charm, humor and everyman quality has propelled him into the upper echelon of the industry and seen him get top billing in some of the biggest franchises and blockbusters out there. He has shown no signs of slowing down, either. Chris Pratt has plenty of huge sequels in the most popular franchises on the way and even when he isn't a part of something, his name usually isn't far from the conversation, such as the suggestion that he should be the next Indiana Jones.

All of this goes to ensure that Chris Pratt will be dominating theater screens for years to come. Johnny Karate and Burt Macklin may have retired, but Chris Pratt is just getting started. Check out all of the actor's upcoming movies below.

Chris Pratt as a gambling cowboy in The Magnificent Seven

The Kid

One of Chris Pratt's only upcoming movies that isn't part of a major franchise is his turn in The Kid. The Western from director Vincent D'Onofrio will tell the story of a young boy who witnesses the encounter between legendary outlaw Billy the Kid and the lawman, Sheriff Pat Garrett. Dane DeHaan will play Billy the Kid opposite Ethan Hawke's Pat Garrett. Chris Pratt is playing a character named Grant Cutler. We haven't seen a trailer yet for this film, but it sounds like it will be a bit more serious than the action-heavy The Magnificent Seven. The Kid is currently in post-production but doesn't have a release date set yet.

Chris Pratt's Emmet Brickowski holding up the line in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part

Although it's taken five years, 2019 brings with it a proper sequel to the surprise 2014 hit The LEGO Movie, a flick that proved the evergreen toys are indeed deserving of their own movie. The appropriately meta-titled The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will follow up on the Duplo and LEGO clash set up the real world seeing Finn and his sister having to play together. The trailer teases another fun adventure, this time with a fun apocalyptic backdrop. Wildstyle, Benny, Batman and Chris Pratt's Emmet Brickowski are all returning for more adventures. Chris Pratt will also be voicing another character, Rex Dangervest, which sounds like a hilarious amalgamation and satire of the actor's most famous roles.

Star-Lord exasperating Tony Stark in Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers 4

Okay, so technically spoiler alert Chris Pratt's character was snapped out of existence in Avengers: Infinity War along with a bunch of other Marvel heroes. Even though he is currently dead in the MCU, everyone is expecting that the victims of Thanos' universe-balancing will be returning in some fashion in Avengers 4. The Phase 3 finale is shrouded in mystery, but if and when he returns, Peter Quill will have some splainin' to do for his costly mistake in the battle with Thanos on Titan. Should Gamora stay dead, you've also got to think that the space cowboy will have a major emotional arc with revenge still on his mind.

Release Date: May 3, 2019

Star-Lord and Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The same caveat to Avengers 4 applies here, as well, but the very existence of a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 implies that the team, including Chris Pratt's Star-Lord will be back to cosmic mischief. Supposedly there was a three-movie arc for the Guardians that would end with Volume 3; still, at this point everything is up in the air. Writer and director James Gunn was fired and will not be brought back for this film and it remains to be seen if his script will be used. This film was supposedly set to start filming in early 2019 for a 2020 release date, but we'll have to wait and see if it's delayed, cancelled or if something else goes down.

Release Date: 2020(?)

Chris Pratt's Owen Grady approaching Blue the Raptor in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World 3

People seemed to either love or hate Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom but it was a huge hit at the box office and definitely set up an entirely new paradigm for director Colin Trevorrow to play with in the third film. This time Chris Pratt's raptor whisperer Owen Grady will be living in a literal "Jurassic World" with dinosaurs on the loose, since they are no longer contained at the end of Fallen Kingdom. Jurassic World 3 is set up to be something completely different than what we've seen before and Owen Grady will again be along for the ride to provide the requisite common sense, quips, and heroics.

Cowboy Ninja Viking

Cowboy Ninja Viking

Cowboy Ninja Viking, based on the Image Comics limited series written by A.J. Lieberman and illustrated by Riley Rossmo, was gearing up for production for a summer release next year. In the time since, it has been pulled from the schedule, although it is still in active development. Chris Pratt is set to star for director Michelle MacLaren as a man named Duncan who suffers from multiple personality disorder and is used by the government and turned into a super soldier who possesses the skills of a cowboy, a ninja and a Viking. If Universal gets the kinks worked out this sounds like it could set up another huge franchise for Chris Pratt.
