22 years after we fell for Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook in She’s All That, Netflix has remade the movie for a new generation of teens with He’s All That. The upcoming rom-com will team TikTok sensation Addison Rae with Cobra Kai star Tanner Buchanan for a modern twist on the ‘90s favorite. Since the original is such a nostalgic property for millennials, there’s a lot of thoughts about the retelling.

The He’s All That trailer dropped on Wednesday and introduced what fans can expect from the new take on She’s All That. Overall, there were a lot of mixed feelings, with the bar initially being pretty low for one Twitter user:

While “not as bad” isn’t exactly what you want to hear about a movie ahead of its release, it goes to show that the He's All That trailer did warm up some fans to the idea of reliving the makeover love story through a Gen Z lense. Fans of the original became sold thanks to Rachael Leigh Cook’s involvement in the new film, though there’s also some hope that Freddie Prinze Jr. will also make his way into the movie as well:

Aside from Rachael Leigh Cook, who played Laney Boggs in the 1999 movie, Matthew Lillard made an appearance in the trailer as well. In a fun callback to She’s All That, he was seen dancing at the prom just like Brock Hudson did:

The He’s All That trailer even includes a cover of the song “Kiss Me” made famous from the original movie. The new Netflix movie looks like it will be paying tribute to the 1999 movie throughout its runtime, but the biggest change comes from the popular high schooler being a girl (Addison Rae) and her bet to fix an outcast classmate (Tanner Buchanan). As one fan jokes:

It will be interesting to see how swapping the gender dynamics for He’s All That will change the storyline. But when it comes down to it, The Good Place star Jameela Jamil was very unimpressed with the trailer, saying this:

It’s true that He’s All That is almost guaranteed to be trending on Netflix come late August because of its big stars and name recognition. Jameela Jamil, who is starring in the upcoming She-Hulk TV show, called it “objectively terrible,” but she predicts it will still be a big hit.

She’s All That fans might be at odds with He’s All That, but it’s coming nonetheless to Netflix on August 27. Are you excited for the remake of the ‘90s classic? Vote in our poll below and keep checking back with CinemaBlend for more news about upcoming Netflix movies.
