With Dune’s release months away, anticipation for the film is steadily increasing. Everyone involved has been heaping words of praise after the sci-fi epic’s private screening. Well, you can add Gurney himself, Josh Brolin, to the chorus of praises for the film. Brolin made a strong statement about the completed project. After a year of delays, the Marvel Cinematic Universe star called the anticipated sci-fi epic a “masterpiece.”

It’s been a long and embattled road trying to get Dune into theaters. All the images and trailers have only emphasized how grandiose and dark the Denis Villeneuve blockbuster will be. Fortunately, Josh Brolin couldn’t help but gush over the final product. The Dune star revealed his experience seeing the sci-fi epic completed for the first time with these words:

They screened the movie for us when it was finally done. And I was so blown away. I mean, I can say, I think I can safely say it's a masterpiece. It truly is a cinematic masterpiece, what he was able to do and hold all those characters and give all those characters their time and day but then also hold the story on top of that, and do justice to the story. And the lighting, which was done by Greg Fraser, who I ended up doing a book with, we just finished our book which is his photographs and my writing, that's going to come out around the time that Dune comes out, all this stuff. It just was one of those moments where it all comes together.

The Flag Day star’s description of Dune painted the film as a true homage to the original book. It seemed the sci-fi film is not only dedicated to the story, but fleshing out the characters. Oftentimes some sci-fi films have been criticized for pushing technology over character and story development, but it seems as if Denis Villeneuve wants to reverse that mindset. Josh Brolin seemed hyped for the fans to see what he witnessed. Saying that “it all comes together” may speak volumes to Dune fans. The film was so inspiring that Brolin subsequently worked on a tie-in book. According to Brolin, he wasn’t the only one who thought the film lived up to every expectation.

While speaking with ACE Universe, the MCU star talked about witnessing a fan freaking out over the sci-fi blockbuster during the screening. He revealed his Outer Range producer Zev Borow yelled at the screen with excitement after Dune’s credits began rolling. Josh Brolin tried unsuccessfully to calm him down. Borow’s response wasn’t out of character, as Brolin revealed the producer grew up reading the books. Borow reportedly told the actor that the film was everything he pictured as a Dune fan. If that isn’t a ringing endorsement for the film, I don’t know what is.

Of course, Josh Brolin wasn’t the first person to hype up the sci-fi blockbuster. Eternals director Chloe Zhao made a case for viewers going to see Dune in theaters if COVID-19 stays at bay. Those who have seen the movie are truly selling it well. Hopefully, moviegoers will feel the same when the sci-fi blockbuster arrives in theaters on October 22.
