Charlize Theron Opens Up About History With Marijuana Use

Charlize Theron in Fate of the Furious

Charlize Theron is apparently a fan of the wacky tobacky. During a recent press junket to promote her latest film, the crime comedy Gringo, Theron opened up about her history with smoking marijuana, something the 42-year-old actress/producer claims she has done for "most of" her life. In fact, Theron says that, when she as younger and toking up more regularly, she would even partake during the morning hours. Here's what Charlize Theron had to say about her past relationship with Mary Jane.

I was a wake-and-baker for most of my life.... I didn't really mess around with anything until I was much older. But I really appreciated marijuana way more than alcohol or anything else. My chemistry was really good with it when I was younger and then it just changed one day.

As Charlize Theron explained in her interview with E!, the actress has enjoyed weed for many years before something changed. For reasons unbeknown, Theron thought that it lost its thrill in her early 30s, not providing the same fun it gave in the previous few years. Since then, Theron hasn't regularly partaken in the reefer. Though that doesn't necessarily mean that she's done and out, nor are her stoner days completely behind her. Now that she's in her 40s, and she has sleeping issues and a new array of options, she might be looking to get back into the groove. Theron explained her current standing with pot in better detail.

Like, in my early thirties I just became boring on it, and I would just stand in front of my fridge, so that's no good... Yeah, it changed, so I stopped. But I'm open to retrying it again, because there are all these different strains, and you can be specific with it. And I'm really interested because I have really bad insomnia, and I'd much rather get off sleeping pills and figure out a strain that helps me sleep better. So, when I have a moment, I'm doing that with my mom.

In the meantime, Charlize Theron has a few upcoming projects keeping her busy. The Atomic Blonde star will appear in Gringo next, which is slated to come out on March 9th. She will also soon be seen in Jason Reitman's dramedy Tully, which premiered at Sundance in January and will make its way into theaters on April 20th. Theron is currently filming a part in another comedy, Flarsky, which also stars Seth Rogen and Andy Serkis. That movie is expected to come out in one year's time on February 8th. She was also recently in The Fate of the Furious and The Last Face. After that, however, her schedule seems pretty wide open. If Charlize Theron looking to get back into the ganja, lighting up may be a nice escape from her very busy schedule. We'll just have to wait and see.
