John Cena Opens Up About Break-Up, Says He Still Wants To Be With Nikki Bella

John Cena Trainwreck

John Cena is at a career high and a personal low at the moment. Professionally, the wrestling megastar-turned-comedy superstar is bigger than ever, especially with hits like Trainwreck, Ferdinand and Blockers boosting his acting profile. Regardless, Cena's home life isn't quite so happy. More specifically, John Cena had his engagement to Nikki Bella broken off after he proposed at Wrestlemania 33 last year. The couple released a statement three weeks ago when they announced their separation, but since then, the normally-open Cena hasn't discussed the high-profile split... until now. In a conversational interview with Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb on this morning's Today, John Cena discussed the hardship that came from breaking up with his partner of six years. Here's what he had to say:

For anyone out there speculating on what I'm doing with my life now, I still love Nicole. I still would love to marry Nicole. I still would love to have a family with Nicole. There was an unfortunate set of circumstances where our relationship ended, there's been a lot of speculation about me being seen in public, and everyone is thinking, 'Oh John Cena's enjoying the single life.' No, I was supposed to be married and have a honeymoon over these two weeks. It's the first time in 15 years that I've taken a vacation. I am in my house alone surrounded by these emotionally strong memories.

In the daytime talk show clip, John Cena claims he had his heart broken "out of nowhere" -- at least for him -- and that the A-list actor has spent this time away from Nikki Bella reflecting and wrestling with his feelings as he attempts to emotionally mend from this difficult situation. Hoping to continue living his life as well as he can, John Cena has been socializing a bit -- especially since he was supposed to be enjoying this time with the love of his life. Just because he is out and about, however, doesn't mean that he's completely healed or at peace with what happened. According to Cena, it's still a hard time.

I don't want anybody else. I love Nicole, and I'm really trying to support her in her trying to find whatever it is that she wants, that made this fall apart in the first place. And in doing so I'm also just trying to live. But I don't have any other hopes other than maybe, one day, we can work it out.

When Nikki Bella and John Cena were separated last month, speculation made fans believe it was Cena's reluctance to have children that ultimately lead to the couple's disintegrated engagement. While that might've been a sticking point early in their relationship together, John Cena claims he has evolved from the "stubborn, selfish, self-focused" person he was five years earlier, and that Nikki Bella was the one who stole Cena's heart and became his number one, making him change what values he previously held dear. With that said, John Cena admits Bella is appearing on Today on Wednesday, so there's a very good chance we'll have a better idea of what happened between these two high-profile wrestlers by the end of the week thanks to the popular daytime talk show program.

Later in the interview, John Cena admits he's still in communication with Nikki Bella, but he wants to make sure he's not imposing on her during this time. In any case, John Cena admits he's in love with Nikki Bella, and that he wants nothing more than to make it work between them so that they can be married and have a family together. In the meantime, however, Cena had the following to say to his fans.

I think the greatest takeaway from all this... I know, for a fact, that I was in love. And I've never been in love before, and I'm telling you out there it's real, it's horrible, it's beautiful, and I hurt so much because I know it was there. It was real, and every day, I take that and I have that. And if I never have another day with Nicole, I will take six years with Nicole over five years and three hundred and sixty days [without her] any day of the week, and I'm so grateful to have stand by her side.

John Cena is very candid about the state of his love life, but he doesn't care. He wants it out in the open. You can check out the talk show clip below.

We'll keep you posted on any additional updates between John Cena and Nikki Bella if or when they arrive. In addition to Nikki Bella's upcoming interview, the break-up drama is expected to unfold on Total Bellas season 3, so we should be completely in the loop in the months to come.
