Kendall Jenner Clarifies Comments About Models Amid Backlash

Kendall Jenner Keeping Up with the Kardashians

Kendall Jenner is hoping to clear the air about controversial comments she made in a recent interview. On social media, the high-profile model attempted to clarify some statements she made in a recent interview -- statements which have earned Jenner a lot of backlash on social media. Both fans and industry professionals were offended by Jenner's comments, which seemed to dismiss models who have to take as many opportunities as possible to boost their own careers. Here's the statement Kendall Jenner wrote on social media trying to explain herself after the controversy she earned for her comments in this interview.

I was misrepresented in a recent interview over the wknd & it's important to clarify the meaning. It was intended to be entirely complimentary but unfortunately, my words were twisted & taken out of context. I want to be clear. The respect that I have for my peers is immeasurable! I get to experience first hand their tireless commitment, their work ethic, the endless days, the lack of sleep, separation from family and friends, stress of traveling, the toll on physical and mental health, yet they still make it all look effortless and beautiful.I'm inspired by so many of these people i have had the good fortune to work alongside! There's no way i could EVER hate on that. I want everyone to win. SLAY ALWAYS.

The Twitter statement is in response to an interview Kendall Jenner hosted with Love magazine. Here is the controversial quote from the model.

Since the beginning we've been super selective about what shows I would do. I was never one of those girls who would do like 30 shows a season or whatever the fuck those girls do. More power to 'em. But I had a million jobs, not only catwalks but everything else. The whole combination was very overwhelming and I started to freak out a little bit and needed to take a step back.

As Kendall Jenner explains in the Twitter comments meant to clarify the statement, she doesn't want to insult any of her model peers. Instead, she believes it was entirely complimentary. She claims that the respect she hosts for other models is "immeasurable," and she doesn't want to hate at all. Whether or not she is able to clear the air with these remending statements is something that social media will have to determine in the days to come.

Kendall Jenner is, of course, no stranger to controversy. Most notably, the model earned a great deal of criticism for her Pepsi commercial which many people deemed inappropriate, tone deaf and offensive. The backlash from that video was a lot more extreme than this one. Hopefully, Jenner weathers the seas of this controversy a little better. The 22-year-old model hopes that's the case, at least.
