Paradise Wrapped With Sweet Post, And Its Creator Made A This Is Us Connection I Hadn't Realized

We don’t know exactly when Paradise Season 3 will be available to watch with a Hulu subscription, but the show’s creator, Dan Fogelman, just announced in an Instagram post that production on the show has wrapped. That means that the final scenes of the series are in the can, because one thing we definitely know is that Season 3 will be the final season for the mystery thriller. In the post, Fogelman made a connection to his last hit show, This Is Us, that surprised me in a couple of ways.

The Crew Was Largely The Same On Both Shows

This Is Us and Paradise are very different shows in a lot of ways. The former was a family drama, while the latter is every bit a sci-fi thriller. There is a lot of DNA shared, as different as they are, though. Obviously, that starts with one of the stars of both, Sterling K. Brown, and Fogelman himself. Both projects also play with timelines, feature flashbacks to tell the whole story, keep you guessing, and leave viewers hanging with great cliffhangers and twists. It turns out, according to Fogelman’s post, much of the crew was the same on both series too.

Fogelman posted a photo of the whole crew:

In the caption, he made the connection between the two:

That’s it for Paradise in Los Angeles. Three years w/this crew (and almost a decade for most of us between Paradise and This Is Us). I’m very proud of this dedicated, talented group… and incredibly grateful.

I guess it shouldn’t have been a surprise to me that Fogelman would work with the same crew, given the incredible work done on This Is Us, but at the same time, the shows are so different that I guess I just figured things behind the scenes would be different too.

Also...10 Years??

Much like in Fogelman’s shows, time often feels like a flat circle, and the showrunner pointing out that it’s been almost a decade since This Is Us premiered really caught me off guard. I feel like Jeremy Piven in Grosse Pointe Blank yelling, “TEN YEARS?” It feels like just yesterday I was watching that epic premiere with the classic twist coming at the end. That was September of 2016, so it’s almost 10 years ago on the nose from when Paradise wrapped filming. Pretty incredible.

In those 10 years, Fogelman (and Brown) have taken fans of the shows on a heck of a ride, and I’m sure glad that we still have 10 or so episodes of Paradise to look forward to. I’ll admit, though I watched most of This Is Us, Paradise is much more up my alley, and I’ve really enjoyed the first two seasons. It’s also gratifying to know that three seasons is exactly what Fogelman planned from the beginning. I don’t want to put too much pressure on Fogelman, Brown, and the crew here, but I’m expecting greatness! I want to hear the crash and see the flash of brilliance at the end! Congrats to all those involved.
