How Stephen Amell's Wrestling Career Is Going To Affect Arrow

It's hard to believe that it was more than a year ago when Arrow lead Stephen Amell first started teasing the possibility of squaring off against a WWE wrestler. The first match between Stephen Amell and Stardust happened at WWE Summerslam last year and the Arrow actor came out on top; the two also matched up for charity. While hints that Amell could face other WWE favorites have been mentioned in recent months, now his wrestling career is going to affect Arrow and in a good way. (We think.) Cody Rhodes, AKA Stardust, is going to do a guest spot on the hit CW series.

Stephen Amell and Cody Rhodes were in the same room together earlier this week, promoting at the Heroes and Villains FanFest in New Jersey. While there, the two men broke the news that Rhodes would be making a special appearance during Arrow's upcoming fifth season on the CW. During the casual reveal, neither Amell nor Rhodes shared exactly what sort of character the WWE wrestler will be playing, so we have no idea if this will be a fun cameo or something more substantial, like a villain. Luckily, it looks like we may be able to look forward to another match-up between Stephen Amell and Cody Rhodes on the small screen. Rhodes hinted that it might be a little more substantial and here's what he had to say at the fest:

You can probably expect Stephen and I to get into another fight.

Cody Rhodes later took to Twitter to share his feelings about the big casting news, noting that he hopes to do justice to the gig, just as Stephen Amell seemed to want to do when he stepped into the WWE ring opposite Stardust.

Cody Rhodes' acting has mostly been limited to WWE work, although he did appear in the prank TV show Swerved (which follows wrestling stars) and did voice work for Scooby-Doo! And WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon. Still, bringing the actor into the Arrow-verse should be great for fans who have watched the rivalry between the actor and the wrestler become a bigger deal over the past year. If they get an action sequence in Arrow, it should bring the rivalry full circle.

Arrow has already started gearing up for Season 5. A slew of names have been added to the CW drama, including Rick Gonzolez as the vigilante Wild Dog, Chad L. Coleman as Tobias Church, and Carly Pope as Green Lantern character Susan Williams.
