You can add another project to the growing list of possible reboots. This one features a pretty big twist, though. Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd is working to bring Aeon Flux back to life in live-action form. Gale Anne Hurd will team up with Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis to reboot the animated series as a live-action drama for MTV. Here is what you need to know.

The Aeon Flux reboot is in the very early stages of development with Gale Anne Hurd and Jeff Davis set to executive produce, and Davis signed on to write the script. While there are not a lot of details currently available, we do know what it will be about. The new live-action show will be set in the future and revolve around a young assassin living in a dystopian state.

In a hopeful sign for the world, she teams up with a group of rebel biohackers to save humanity, becoming the heroine Aeon Flux. The key words in THR's description are "as she becomes," which intimates the possibility of an origin story approach to the character's journey.

The original animated series ran for three seasons on MTV during the 1990s. If the live-action series gets the green light, it would not be the first time Aeon Flux has gotten the live-action treatment. In 2005, the animated series served as the source for a live-action, sci-fi action movie starring Charlize Theron in the title role. The film did not do great at the box office, and a sequel never materialized. The Walking Dead's Gale Anne Hurd was one of the producers on the movie.

While the film adaptation was not met with widespread success, a television series could offer a welcome change of pace. In short, television may be the best platform to explore this character. As mentioned above, this is in the early stages of production. So there is no word on a premiere date or episode count for the series.

With two executive producers from respected shows, it sounds like a great collaboration is in the works. Gale Anne Hurd brings the familiarity with the property and the expertise of working on a pop culture behemoth, while Jeff Davis is familiar with reboots and developing a passionate fan following for MTV. Aeon Flux is in good hands.
