What excites John Stamos about playing Chef Louis in The Little Mermaid Live!? You are about to find out! Stamos will be taking on the iconic role of Eric’s nutty chef in the Wonderful World of Disney’s live-action spectacular. A first look at Stamos and his co-stars has already been released.
The excitement over The Little Mermaid Live! does not end there. Teasers have showcased high-flying musical numbers and more! If you are already pumped, you can only imagine how excited Full House’s John Stamos is. The actor will be taking on a role completely unlike Uncle Jesse or his You character. In an exclusive promo, Stamos teased his take on Chef Louis by saying (via Access):
What excites me is that they’re sort of letting me play with the character a little bit. I mean, the essence of him will be what people love, but you know, if you really look at this guy, he’s crazy! So just to be able to let all that out into this character is going to be really fun.
It may surprise some, but The Little Mermaid Live! is not the first time that John Stamos has portrayed Chef Louis. He previously played the part for the Hollywood Bowl’s 2016 production. Now a television audience will get a chance to see Stamos reprise the role in ABC’s live musical.
John Stamos sounds excited to show Little Mermaid Live! viewers the outlandish side of Chef Louis. An interpretation of the character as more than a little crazy shouldn't surprise longtime Little Mermaid fans. Aficionados will recall that Chef Louis tried to cook Ariel’s crab friend Sebastian while singing a song! Why Prince Eric hired him in the first place is a big Little Mermaid mystery.
It sounds like Chef Louis’ madness has not been lost on John Stamos. He points out that a careful analysis of the chef reveals he is not all there. Again, how did Prince Eric miss this in the vetting process? Anyway, Stamos is also vowing to portray the core essence of the character in The Little Mermaid Live!, which bodes well.
The Little Mermaid Live! is going to follow in the footsteps of other live television musicals, such as Fox’s recent Rent adaptation. However, ABC’s will be a hybrid production that melds being a live musical with the original animated movie. It should be fun!
John Stamos will have some incredible co-stars! Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho will play the Little Mermaid herself, Princess Ariel. Musician Shaggy will take on the role of Sebastian. Queen Latifah will star as Ursula. Meanwhile, The Good Wife’s Graham Phillips is set to star as Prince Eric. Who else is ready for The Little Mermaid Live!?
