Game of Thrones co-stars, Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa, are the best of friends. The two met on the set of the series, which premiered back in 2011. Clarke starred as Daenerys Targaryen and Momoa as Daenerys’ husband through an arranged marriage, Khal Drogo. Momoa’s arc, like others on Game of Thrones, came to an abrupt end in Season 1.

Despite the brevity of their overall time on the series together, Emilia Clark and Jason Momoa have forged a lasting friendship. Momoa has even opened up about how terrifying Clarke’s aneurysms were. On social media, they have periodically showed off their latest reunion. Well, every friendship has a beginning, and Clarke talked about hers and Momoa's. On how they met, Clarke told Armchair Expert:

I mean physically bowled over. He literally when he first met me he wrestled me to the ground. I was so English before then, I had never been greeted [that way]. I’d never met anyone his size let alone his size of personality. His size of like, ‘Hey wifey!’

Hey wifey, indeed! What a fun beginning to a beautiful friendship! Plus, playing a season as spouses will definitely bring actors together. Fans will recall that Jason Momoa had a strong reaction to what became of his co-star’s character in Game of Thrones’ final season. Daenerys’ fate was something that Emilia Clarke has since revealed she totally hid from Momoa.

In telling the story of how they first met, Emilia Clarke mentions Jason Momoa’s size. Clarke is 5’2”, according to Google. Meanwhile, her Game of Thrones co-star is listed as 6’4” tall, which makes for more than a foot of height difference between the friends. When Clarke and Momoa reunited for his birthday, she captioned their picture by saying, “With you I feel 2 feet small.”

Emilia Clarke wants people to know that it is not just Jason Momoa’s size that counts. She goes on to remark on the kind of person he is, too. Continuing about her good friend, Clarke shared how Momoa has had her back. Clarke said:

It’s not that he’s just a big guy, he just radiates and it’s fucking beautiful. He took care of me too in an environment where I didn’t know I needed to be taken care of.

How nice is that to hear? No wonder their friendship has survived so much. Jason Momoa may have felt cheated by Game of Thrones and other roles before he did beforehis Apple TV+ series See, however, there has been a significant plus to his time on the HBO series. Spoiler: it was not necessarily how much he was paid.

I think it was making such an incredible friend in Emilia Clarke. No one could have blamed them if they fell out of touch through the years, seeing as how Jason Momoa only got to do Game of Thrones’ first season. There were seven more seasons after that, and roughly as many years have gone by since they worked on the fantasy together. But, they've manged to remain close.

Keeping a friendship like that going takes effort. Even as Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa's careers continue to take off, they have found time to catch up at major Hollywood events, among other occasions. Game of Thrones may have come and controversially gone (yes, another spinoff is in the works), but great friendships last forever. Look no further than Clarke and Momoa.

Game of Thrones can be streamed in its entirety on HBO GO. You can now catch Jason Momoa in the series See on Apple TV+. It is one of this winter’s premieres.
