The Office Reunion? John Krasinski Has Strong Feelings About Possible NBC Show Return

John Krasinski, Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson and cast of The Office hashing it out.

The Office ended its run on NBC nearly seven years ago, and some are still hoping to see the Dunder Mifflin staff return to the small screen. One member of that crew was John Krasinski’s Jim Halpert, who gradually became one of the show’s breakout characters. While Krasinski currently has his hands full with other projects, he has considered the idea of getting the band back together.

In fact, John Krasinski still appears to have nothing but good feelings about his time on the hit NBC comedy. During a recent interview, he noted the impact The Office has had on his career as well as confirms that he would be open to a reunion if the opportunity presented itself.

The Office was absolutely everything to me. I mean it is my beginning and my end. I'm pretty sure at the end of my career I'll still be known for Jim. That was my first experience with Hollywood. It was the first creative family I've ever had. In many ways, they will always be the most important people in that most important experience in my career. So yeah, if they did a reunion, I would absolutely love to do it.

"I would absolutely love to do it" is more than a wishy-washy yes or no. Per his comments to Esquire, it looks as if John Krasinski would be all for the return of the NBC sitcom, particularly if it was for a reunion event or special. Obviously, this doesn't mean a reunion will happen tomorrow, but it's still a fun idea to daydream about.

Despite having been off the air for almost a decade, The Office has still proven to be popular among longtime fans and new viewers. The series has also been a hot commodity among streaming services, so much so that NBCUniversal is shelling out $100 million per year to exclusively keep the show on its upcoming streaming service, Peacock.

Given all of this, reuniting The Office’s original cast seems like a no-brainer. There are, however, a few obstacles that could stand in the way of the project becoming a reality. The biggest would be the availability of the stars, as most of them have other obligations. Even Rainn Wilson, who played fan-favorite Dwight Schrute, mentioned this as a potential hurdle for a reunion.

Another way for NBC to capitalize on the show’s legacy would be to move forward with the long-rumored reboot. Of course, such a project likely wouldn’t feature much, if any, of the veteran cast.

While John Krasinksi may be more known for Jack Ryan or directorial work like A Quiet Place Part II these days, The Office provided Krasinski with his breakthrough role, and his Jim Halpert managed to strike a chord with fans. By the end of the series, the actor had appeared in all 201 episodes of the show and even directed several episodes.

Nostalgia continues to be a major selling point for entertainment, and The Office’s enduring legacy could very well bring it back to TV. Whether or not this new iteration includes the likes of Krasinski, Steve Carrell or Jenna Fischer remains to be seen. In the meantime, NBC’s Peacock is set to launch, presumably with the classic series, on July 15.
