Are you ready to go just beyond on Disney+? Well, the streaming service is gearing to do just that with Goosebumps author R.L. Stine. Disney+ and Stine are teaming up for a new show fresh off the news that Stine’s Goosebumps is getting another live-action TV series.
Disney+ has now announced it will be bringing another one of R.L. Stine’s works to life. The bustling streamer has ordered an adaptation of Stine’s graphic novels, Just Beyond, to series. Described as a horror-comedy, Just Beyond will be an anthology, perhaps along the lines of Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House.
Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote Tim Burton’s 2012 film, Dark Shadows, will write and produce Just Beyond for Disney+. Interestingly, Burton was supposed to produce a Goosebumps movie back in the ‘90s. Who else loves when things connect like that?
As for Just Beyond’s progress, things are moving along on the R.L. Stine adaptation. A writers room is already assembling despite the current state of television. So, when can fans of R.L. Stine’s work expect to see Disney+’s Just Beyond series? Sooner than you may have expected.
Just Beyond is currently slated to arrive on Disney+ during fall 2021. So, roughly a year after The Mandalorian’s second season arrives on the streaming service. The announcement of Just Beyond marks yet another high-profile get for Disney+. It already has a Mighty Ducks series and a Turner & Hooch TV show on the way.
With Just Beyond, Disney+ is aiming for its younger audience, which has been critical to the streamer’s success. For those who need an introduction, R.L. Stine’s first installment in the Just Beyond series follows three middle schoolers. The trio find themselves trying to escape another realm after encountering a lethal creature at their school, per BOOM! Studios.
Sounds intense! Could Just Beyond be Disney+’s answer to Stranger Things’ success? R.L. Stine’s books have a vast pre-existing fanbase, so the sky is the limit with this series. Between the terrific news surrounding She-Hulk and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series possibly adding another prequel star, Disney+ is on a roll.
Just Beyond getting adapted by Disney+ is happening after the box office success of the recent Goosebumps movies. As R.L. Stine has reminded fans, there is another monster from that book series that he wants to see on the big screen. For now, he can look forward to his graphic novels making it to the wildly popular small screen.
