90 Day Fiance's Paul And Karine Drama Just Took A Surprising Turn

Paul 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After TLC

90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? ended Season 5 with Paul Staehle and Karine Martins heading back to Brazil, but fans know the drama didn't end there. The two made headlines, with some pretty shocking allegations being thrown back and forth, and the situation was messy enough that TLC seemingly backed out of featuring them in the tell-all. Much like all the initial news, the latest on the situation is equally surprising, as it appears the couple's problems are being resolved out of court.

According to recent documents obtained by Us Weekly, Paul and Karine have mutually agreed to drop restraining orders against each other. The two were supposed to appear in court for the matter, but the court date for that issue was canceled. Given the allegations both parties put in their emergency protective orders, the news is somewhat surprising, and it's not quite clear what the update means at the time of this writing.

One possibility is that the two have found a resolution to their disagreements and a more amicable way of divorcing. Court battles can be messy, so if both parties mutually agreed to a deal outside of court, the restraining orders could've been dropped in favor of working through the process via mediators or some other route. But, given that Paul and Karine both seemed insistent on keeping main custody of their son, Pierre, as well as the child who's on the way, it seems unlikely.

The other possibility is that the two decided to work things out and get back together, which would be a shocking turn of events. With that being said, it's not necessarily unprecedented, seeing as how Paul Staehle and Karine Martins have frequently fought and then threatened divorce at previous times on 90 Day Fiancé. Perhaps cooler heads prevailed, and the two decided that they wanted to work on trying to fix things rather than go through the process of officially separating.

One would imagine that such a thing would take a lot of work, as Paul and Karine have struggled for stability ever since they arrived in Louisville, Kentucky, from Brazil. Money has been an issue, and Paul's past felony convictions have made finding work a struggle. That, paired with Karine's stated homesickness for Brazil towards the end of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, and it's hard to imagine this route would be the easiest road for the two to travel.

Perhaps the biggest question is whether or not 90 Day Fiancé viewers will get to see the next chapter for the couple after all is said and done. The two's exclusion from part one of the tell-all was not addressed, and given the various headlines about them, it's possible TLC quietly cut ties with the couple. It's all up in the air, for now, so until we hear otherwise, we can only wait and see if they come back for Season 6.

The 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? tell-all continues on TLC, Sunday, October 4 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for all the latest happenings with the franchise and more in television and movie news.
