Why Some Virgin River Fans Think Netflix Quietly Renewed The Show For Season 3

Those of us who binged Virgin River Season 2 over Thanksgiving weekend have now spent two weeks wondering about how things might play out for our favorite characters. Pretty much everyone had either big decisions to make or had some serious trouble come to their doorstep, with Preacher, Mel, Jack, Doc Mullins, and Hope all leaving fans with some major questions. This means that everyone wants to know whether or not the show will get a third season, but some fans think Netflix has already quietly renewed the show, and we know why.

When Virgin River Season 1 hit Netflix, it was basically an instant hit. The romantic drama, which focuses on the lives of those in the titular remote California town, delivered pretty much everything fans could want, and it only took a couple of weeks for the streamer to renew the show for Season 2. The new season dropped on Black Friday, and just like the first one, people couldn't seem to watch fast enough. So, while a renewal could certainly be announced soon, we've heard nothing. But, fans who stay apprised of the stars' posts on social media think Season 3 might already be filming.

Take a look at this short video, and we can discuss below:

This is a cute little video letting fans know when Virgin River Season 2 was premiering on Netflix, right? Well, here's the thing, stars Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson were pretty clearly on a set of some kind when they filmed that video, and, because of that, some folks think that they recorded it while already at work on Season 3 of the hit. This is in no way a smoking gun when it comes to word on another season, though, because it's not impossible that they happen to be working together on something totally different right now, though no such project appears to have been announced.

There is another aspect to the video that's convincing some people that Breckenridge and Henderson were already hard at work on Virgin River Season 3 when they shot the clip. And, that would be the moment after Henderson's two quick camera zoom "woo!" mentions, when he wonders aloud about what season of the show they're promoting. That kind of confusion doesn't seem very likely unless you've already gotten many, many seasons into a series.

If they were, as one could easily speculate, on set wrapping up work on Season 2, it wouldn't seem that hard to remember which season you were going to announce the debut of, correct? And, Henderson's lack of surety when talking about the show does look a bit like he's actually trying to keep a secret (or avoid an accidental info leak), rather than just blanking on the specifics. Let's say they were on the set of Season 3, but it was still a big fat no-no to say anything publicly about it. With his mind on the current work (Season 3), but talking about Season 2, it could be easy to slip up and talk about the wrong set of episodes.

Whatever the case may be, Netflix hasn't officially said that Season 3 of Virgin River is a go just yet, but you can revisit all the twists and turns of Seasons 1 and 2 on the service right now. For more on this and everything in TV, movies and pop culture, be sure to stay tuned to CinemaBlend!
