The Originals Pilot Premieres During The Vampire Diaries Tonight, Watch The Trailer

Tonight, the CW is premiering the backdoor pilot for The Originals, a potential drama spinoff following the original family of vampires living in The Vampire Diaries universe. TVD is known for its quick, dramatic dialogue, and from the extended trailer above, The Originals will offer plenty of new dealings with the undead, and will feature some familiar faces, as well as plenty of brand new ones.

The Originals finished up the casting for the pilot just last month, initially signing on TVD’s Joseph Morgan, who plays Klaus in series and Daniel Gillies, who plays Klaus’ brother Elijah. New cast members set for The Originals pilot include Daniella Pineda and Leah Pipes, among plenty of other castings.

Since TVD does so well at the network, The Originals is a pretty high profile project. Needless to say, tonight’s numbers will certainly have an effect on the network’s decision to move forward with the project or not. I’m of the personal opinion that more Klaus is always a good thing, and I hope we’ll get to see more of the NOLA-based project next TV season. In other news, EW noted today that the CW’s big scheduling announcements for next season will be available on May 16—so keep an eye out for The Originals news.
