Thor: Tales of Asgard Is The Perfect Companion To The Superhero's Theatrical Release

As part of The Avengers universe, the less than down to Earth superhero, Thor, has never really had a chance to truly stand alone in a televised format. On the bright side, the animated Thor can be seen in everything from Ultimate Avengers to Hulk Vs. If there is one thing Marvel is particularly good at, it’s referencing itself. However, with the theatrical release of Thor on May 6, the comic superhero has worked its way onto the big screen for the first time as the subject matter of a major motion picture.

Now, as a companion to the major motion picture, Marvel has also created an animated Thor feature set to hit DVD, Blu-Ray, digital download, and On Demand on May 17. The feature, titled Thor: Tales of Asgard has built on over forty years of Thor comics to bring a truly epic story into homes. The great part about this release is audiences won’t have to wait for a theatrical tenure to get the goods. In fact they won’t even have to get off their couches. Plus, special features will still be available. It’s a decent trade-off for losing the acting prowess of Chris Hemsworth.

As far as special features go, buyers will get audio commentary with the filmmakers, a “Making of” featurette, and an episode of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Plus, the animation looks particularly crisp for something that’s direct to DVD. Check out the cover art below.
