By Rafe Telsch: 2008-05-08 21:44:23

Criterion Enters Blu-ray Ring We’ve reported on every major studio’s plan for Blu-ray by now, but the announcements aren’t finished yet. The pinnacle of DVD production, The Criterion Collection, has finally made their plans for high definition known. Since Blu-ray has won the battle, there’s no question about which format they’re going to use. Instead it’s interesting to see what movies have been selected for the high definition treatment.

The company announced in a newsletter that they’ve selected more than a dozen titles to be released in Blu-ray, starting in October. Expect the fabulous audio-visual treatment Criterion typically gives its releases, along with the bonus material we’ve come to expect from the company.

Here’s the list of titles the studio has announced, ranging from Oscar winners, to foreign pictures, rock documentaries to Wes Anderson’s lesser known starting ground:

The Third Man

Bottle Rocket

Chungking Express
The Man Who Fell to Earth
The Last Emperor
El Norte

The 400 Blows
Gimme Shelter

The Complete Monterey Pop
Contempt

Walkabout

For All Mankind

The Wages of Fear
