A Major Dead Rising Reveal May Be Coming

It looks like fans of mowing down hordes of the undead could have something to look forward to if recent rumors and potentially leaked images are to be believed. Could Dead Rising 4 be somewhere in our not-too-distant future?

Rumors have started popping up all over the internet overnight as potential images and details pertaining to a new game in the Dead Rising series have started to surface. Over on This Gen Gaming, they’ve posted a picture that is supposedly promotional material for Dead Rising 4.

As always, we encourage all of our readers to take these types of rumors with the appropriate grain of salt, but at least this one has a lot of buzz coming from a lot of different directions that seem to be backing it.

For starters, there’s this very believable photo from This Gen Gaming.

An image in and of itself wouldn’t add too much weight to the argument of legitimacy, but there’s more. For starters, additional rumors are circulating that Capcom will be revealing an Xbox One/PC game during Microsoft’s E3 press conference next week and, wouldn’t you know it, Capcom is the publisher of the Dead Rising series. The fact that E3 is only a week away only strengthens this rumor, as it makes sense for these types of tidbits to start trickling out so close to the show.

According to the supposed details, this new Dead Rising game is set in Willamette, Colorado, which is where the first game in the series was set. The image appears to be showing a mall setting, which was also where the first game took place. The lights hanging from the ceiling make it look like it’s Christmas which, again, was the same time of year as the first Dead Rising. All of that combines to an additional rumor that Dead Rising 4 is a remake of the first game, though you’d expect them to name it with a subtitle rather than a number if that was the case.

Elsewhere, we’re hearing that the game will feature a beefy online mode boasting cooperative play and a cast of characters pulled from the previous Dead Rising games. Given the extreme similarities between the image and the first game, we wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out to be a cooperative-only game, boasting locations pulled from the three previous games and maybe some additional stomping grounds for good measure.

Again, everything here is speculation at this point and serves as a reminder that developers and publishers have to go into overdrive this time of year to keep a lid on things just one week away from E3. Here’ hoping we get some additional details next week.
