MOVIE NEWS
Animation Added By GGs The Hollywood Foreign Press has decided that animated films simply cannot compete with their usual slate of political dramas, social dramas, and period dramas and so, the Golden Globes are adding a new category to their awards ceremony. Following in the footsteps of the Academy Awards, the GGs will introduce a new animation category at their awards festivities next year. The Oscars added a similar category back in 2002.
It’s good news bad news for animated filmmakers. The good news is that your work will now be recognized on a yearly basis. The bad news is that you can now forget about an animated film ever winning one of the GGs best picture categories. But then, that was probably about as likely to happen as a comedy winning one, in other words no chance in hell. Hey! Maybe they should make a separate category for comedies as well. Wait… the GGs have that and yet somehow Comedies never seem to win it. Unless you think Walk the Line was really really funny. But it’s not like the Globes have been ignoring animated films. Both The Incredibles and Finding Nemo were nominated in their musical or comedy category. They just didn’t win. Now, future Incredibles equivalents will be pigeonholed into the animation category alongside the latest adventures of Wallace & Gromit, nominated for the Oscar's animation category this year. |
