Batman V Superman's R-Rated Cut Just Dropped A Badass Trailer, Check It Out

It’s safe to say that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was one of the most anticipated superhero movies from mid-2013 up until its release this past March. Whether you enjoyed the movie or not, there’s no denying that the movie managed to pack a lot in, but now fans can look forward to even more material coming. In addition to a regular home release, the second DC Extended Universe entry is also getting an extended edition release later this month, and now a cool trailer has just been dropped, providing us a taste of what we missed out on in theaters.

Although Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was especially intense for a PG-13 movie, the "Ultimate Edition" is including extended or brand new action scenes that are more comfortable nestled in rated-R territory. So if you liked the original version’s fights, get ready for even more bombastic throw-downs. Along with these sequences, this cut is also including 30 minutes worth of scenes cut from the theatrical release, taking the runtime to over three hours. This includes one (or several) featuring Hunger Games star Jena Malone. Several months ago, it was rumored that she was playing Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Batgirl/Oracle. However, in this trailer, she’s seen with blonde hair and looks like she’s working at the Daily Planet with Lois Lane. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean she’s still not Barbara. Maybe this version dyed her hair and took a job at the Planet to separate herself from the Bat-Family. Still, this is peculiar.

Other folks in this trailer who weren’t from the theatrical release include a man who knows the Batman is "hunting" (in other words, out for blood) and a woman who tells Clark Kent that words won’t stop "men like that" (a.k.a. metahumans and other mighty beings), only fists. These cut scenes, along with the more intense action sequences, should be fun for those who enjoyed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in the theaters and maybe improve the movie in the eyes of fans who didn’t enjoy the original version.

On top of debuting the trailer, Collider also provided more information on what fans can expect in the way of special features on the home release. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are all getting multiple mini-documentaries and other forms of introspection, and even Lex Luthor gets the spotlight shined on him for "The Empire of Luthor." It’s also worth mentioning that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack will provide both the theatrical and extended versions of the movie. If you purchase the DVD by itself, you’ll only get the theatrical cut.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: The Ultimate Edition will be available for digital purchase on June 28, and will hit shelves on July 19.
