It was bad enough when the impending production of Meg meant we'd all soon have another lame killer shark movie foisted upon us (Oh but the shark is really big!). But now it looks like the killer croc genre is getting a re-spin as well.
The Hollywood Reporter says Dominic Purcell, star of the once hyped but now nearly forgotten television show "Prison Break", has signed up to star in Primeval along with once funny, former 7-Up pitchman Orlando Jones. Primeval, is a killer croc movie. Purcell plays a cameraman tracking a 25-foot croc in South Africa with a reporter (Jones). The croc's name is Gustave, which makes him sound as if he's friendly and full of chocolate.
It's a toss-up between which is the most yawn inspiring killer-whatever movie project out there, this or Meg. At least Meg is based on book, which I suppose counts for something. On the other hand, at least Primeval is an original… sort of. If we're lucky, both will die on the vine.
It's been six years since Lake Placid, the last high-profile killer crocodile movie. But I'm sure in the interim Roger Cormon has released a dozen or so straight-to-video movies on the subject, so it's not like we're running out of killer crocs.

Joshua, the reason, i think, that they have named the Croc Gustav is because he is named after a 20ft, 2000lb Nile Crocodile that really does exist and was reported to be snacking on local people for a pastime. National Geographic made a documentary about him called "Capturing the Killer Croc"
On a related subject, have you ever read the "Meg" series of novels by Steve Alten? New Line Cinema are hopefully going to make this a £100million movie production that will hopefully do the books proud. Scientists are still arguing about the theories explored in this book. Years ago, we believed that life could not survive without sunlight, now we know that their is more life per sq ft at the bottom of the sea then on the surface. Read the book, you may yet become a fan...
