Deadly Little Miho Mutates![]()
Devon Aoki, who played deadly little Miho in Sin City (and will reprise the role in Sin City 2) has been cast in the upcoming sci-fi thriller The Mutant Chronicles, according to Production Weekly.
If the movie's name makes the project sound like it might be a rip off of X-Men, don't worry it isn't. It's not nearly that cool. The Mutant Chronicles is based on a lame sounding role playing game about a dystopic future in which the human race has dwindled and finds itself under attack by a bunch of creatures called "NecroMutants". I believe this is also the plot of most of the non-Pokemon anime imports currently running in place of real cartoons on Saturday mornings. Already cast in the film is John Malkovich, who plays Constantine, the head of a United Nations styled council run by four countries which are in turn, run by four corporations. If you've ever watched a futuristic movie before, by now you're probably well aware that in the future big business runs everything. Scary as that sounds, it can't possibly be any worse than having the world run by politicians. Also already cast is Ron Perlman as a cultish religious leader and Thomas Jane, who plays a 23rd Century Marine, and your hero for this movie. Jane's character opposes Constantine's efforts to destroy the planet in an effort to boost corporate profits. Aoki fits into this big role playing mess as Duval, a wild, sexy, fighter who also happens to be a mother. Lucky for us, she puts kicking ass before motherhood, since watching her baby-sit for two hours wouldn't make much of an action movie. It's kind of surprising that John Malkovich is involved in this movie, since it sounds like straight to video garbage. The rest of the cast fits in pretty well with direct to video, but if he's in it, maybe there's something in it. Personally, I'm leery of role playing game based movies. They're only slightly worse than video game translations. Anyone remember Dungeons & Dragons? I thought not. |
