John Schwartzman is one of Hollywood’s most respected cinematographers, scoring an Oscar nomination for his work in Seabiscuit. His knack for beautiful imagery will be taken up a notch when he makes his directorial debut in the near future.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Schwartzman will helm the football movie Carlisle School for Walden Media. Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray produced the sports films Miracle and The Rookie, and will rejoin for the project along with John Fusco and Jim Crabbe.
The movie is about a ragtag team of American Indian football players, led by Olympic gold medalist Jim Thorpe. The men overcame steep odds in the early 20th century, defeating some of the best college teams while attending Carlisle Indian Industrial School. In other words, a true underdog flick.
Carlisle School will likely score a touchdown with fans of heartfelt sports weepies. Check back for more information over the coming months.
