Goonies Sequel Killed By Broadway?![]()
Lately there’s been a lot of talk about The Goonies getting a sequel. A lot of the cast has been speaking out about it, and they’ve made it sound like Goonies 2 is almost a certainty. In fact, that’s exactly what Sean Astin said last month. Two weeks ago Empire said that they were actually making an animated version. Now though, JoBlo’s Dave Davis is raining on the Goonies parade.
Dave, who much like most of us over here at CB never actually liked Goonies (Explorers and The Last Starfighter instead Dave? Awesome. Dude, we so need to hang out.), says that former Goonies director Richard Donner is planning a Broadway play instead. That’s right, the next time you see The Goonies they may be singing and dancing on stage. Donner has supposedly talked to Warner Brothers, and says they’re all for it. They were never that keen on doing a Goonies sequel in the first place, and doing a stage version likely requires significantly less investment for them. So the question here is whether this totally kills the movie sequel everyone has been talking about. Will the stage play be the sequel, or will the stage play be a rehash of the original film? If they are doing a stage play, would any of the original cast be involved? Maybe it’ll work, but does it really matter since most of the world will never see it? Probably not. If I haven’t gotten around to seeing “Spam-a-lot”, I’m sure not going out of my way to see this when it finally rolls into Dallas with the third-rate touring cast they usually shove off on all us yokels not lucky enough to live on one of America’s all-powerful, all-important coasts. |
