How Far Is Marvel Planning Out Guardians Of The Galaxy? Here's What James Gunn Says

At this point it feels like Marvel Studios can do no wrong, but it wasn’t that long ago that nobody knew quite what to expect when they decided to make a feature film based on Guardians of the Galaxy. The film ended up being a huge success, leading to the filming of the sequel that is currently taking place. However, director James Gunn says that Marvel is already looking past his current film toward the next one.

James Gunn took some down time between scenes to do a little live Facebook broadcasting from his trailer on Pinewood Studios lot, where he is currently directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. One fan asked Gunn if there was any property outside of comic books that he’d be interested in working on. In answering the question, he actually gave us a bit of insight as to what’s going on inside this particular comic book property.

Right now I really am just concerned with doing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this… Marvel has talked to me about continuing on. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do or if that’s not what I want to do. I really just want to make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the greatest possible movie that I can, and something that’s as honest and sincere and true as it can possibly be.

So, while James Gunn hasn’t decided that he’ll be moving forward past Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it certainly appears that Marvel is fully expecting the series to continue. Since Gunn goes on to talk about his experience working on Guardians 2, it does seem to be clear that the director is talking about him continuing on with this franchise, not moving on to something else.

Since the current slate of Marvel movies ends in 2019, and the only film scheduled after Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2 is the new property Inhumans, we really haven’t had a lot of visibility to what might be going on with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the current arc of films wraps up. Many of Marvel’s contracts with their current stars only run through this period so it’s possible that many of the current franchises will be wrapping up in 2019. It, at least, appears that Marvel doesn’t want Guardians of the Galaxy to be one of them.

Are you looking forward to as many new Guardians of the Galaxy movies as you can get? How much do you think the series would lose if James Gunn is not the one behind the camera? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. And get ready for Captain America: Civil War with some Cap trivia. We promise it's not too difficult!
