Klaatu Barada Remake

By Josh Tyler: 2007-02-23 00:50:51
Klaatu Barada Remake There’s no more classic science fiction movie than The Day the Earth Stood Still, sadly as precedent has shown, even classics aren’t immune to remake madness. First Showing claims they’ve confirmed a rumor from Box Office Mojo which says that the much respected flick is getting modernized and done over.

Box Office Mojo’s release schedule has it listed for a 2008 release from 20th Century Fox, and beyond that no one seems to know anything. The original 1951 movie is about an alien named Klaatu who lands on Earth with a robot named Gort to save the planet from being destroyed. If you’ve ever wondered where the quote “Klaatu barada nikto” comes from, this is it.

So, how do you remake the most revered science fiction film of all time? Badly. Seriously, Hollywood never gets these right. They’ll probably sautee it in fancy new, computer generated effects and turn the alien into some bosomy hot chick from a planet where wearing clothes is taboo. Lindsay Lohan as the new Klaatu anyone?
