Let's get one thing straight -- director Werner Herzog is a mad man. In Aguirre, The Wrath of God, he floated his cast and crew on rafts down the Huallaga and Nanay Rivers in Peru. In Fitzcarraldo, he chronicled the trials of Brian Fitzgerald physically pulling his 320-ton steamer over a muddy, 40-degree hillside by, well, actually pulling a 320-ton steamer over a mountain without the use of special effects. So, while a remake of the Harvey Keitel-starring Bad Lieutenant might sound uneventful, when Herzog is helming, who knows what can happen.
According to Variety, Eva Mendes is in talks to join Herzog's "re-imagining" of a corrupt cop investigating a nun's rape. Nicholas Cage it on board to play the cop in question. Although Cage continues to make movies that are somehow worse than his last, Mendes is easy on the eyes at least (though that didn't work for the duo in Ghost Rider). But Herzog might be crazy enough to make this redux interesting. Shooting begins later this summer.
