AICN is reporting that X3 & X4 may be shot back to back. It would make a lot of sense if Singer is actually doing the Pheonix saga, a long and story spanning plot in which Jean Grey is reborn and then gets really really nasty. Especially could this be true if he’s afraid he’ll lose Jackman, the only guy who could ever play Wolverine.

With Jackman chomping at the bit, Halle Berry getting to big for her britches, and Singer no doubt soon to be ready to move on to something else, it makes sense to squeeze in two films all at once, at least if you’re the studio. Get it done before your major players can wander off.

From a story standpoint, it’s a good thing for us. Two movies means better developed story and more time to dig in to the every growing cast of killer mutant characters.
