Although it has started shooting this week and has an amazing cast, the British gangster film, 44 Inch Chest is flying under the radar. I’m going to attempt to bring it over the radar, or at least equal with the radar. I like British gangster movies and books and this one sounds like a humdinger. Is that a word?

According to Variety, the cast for 44 Inch Chest reads like a who’s who of “good freakin’ actors.” Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, John Hurt, Tim Roth, Tom Wilkinson, Stephen Dillane, Joanne Whalley and Melvil Poupaud are slated to appear. The script was written by Louis Melles and David Scinto. You’ve never heard of them, but they wrote Sexy Beast, also starring Winstone, which was excellent.

Although the title might refer to a girl or a gun, or both, the plot is about love gone wrong. A criminal (Winstone) seeks revenge on his wife (probably Whalley) for taking a younger lover (likely not Hurt). There is reportedly assistance from the criminal’s gang, which may include McShane and Roth, although who knows. You’ll have to watch the movie when it comes out. I plan on it.
