Renee Zellweger is taking a break from her demanding botox inection schedule to slap some leather with Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris. Variety reports that she’s starring in Appaloosa, a western drama that Harris co-wrote and plans to direct.

The book is adapted from a novel about two friends protecting a lawless town from a renegade rancher. Renee plays an attractive and squinty widow who shows up in town and somehow disrupts their plans. Maybe her bustle gets in their line of fire or something.

The film’s plot synopsis sounds like pretty standard wild west, shoot-em-up stuff but the fact that they insist on calling it a “western drama” makes me afraid that Appaloosa might end up being more Cold Mountain than Rio Bravo. If so, I’ll have to schedule out nap time so that it falls during my screening.
