Roth Films Nazi Propaganda![]()
We were certainly surprised when Eli Roth was named as one of the actors for Quentin Tarantino’s World War II epic, Inglorious Bastards. After all, Roth is a director himself, and not one known for making appearances in front of the camera with the frequency of Tarantino himself. It looks like Roth may be pulling double duty on Bastards though, playing the part of “the Bear Jew” as well as stepping into his comfort zone behind the camera.
Recent behind the scenes video and pictures from the Bastards production over at The Quentin Tarantino Archives revealed that Tarantino wasn’t on set during the filming of “Nation’s Pride,” a Nazi propaganda film that will be seen within Inglorious Bastards. The film-within-a-film stars Daniel Brühl as a Nazi sniper and was apparently guest-directed by Roth. I like the idea that someone other than Tarantino directed the picture-within-a-picture, if only because it guarantees that the mini-movie will have a different feel to it. I don’t know the context of how “Nation’s Pride” appears in Tarantino’s film, but here’s hoping Roth’s short film will wind up appearing as an entire segment, either in the movie or on DVD. |
