San Francisco Critics Like Little Children![]()
Yet anther critic’s group has sent out their end of year list. This time it’s the San Francisco Film Critics Circle, and they’re bucking convention to go with an underdog as the year’s best movie, the excellent yet overlooked Todd Fields film Little Children.
Little Children breezed through theaters in October earlier this year with almost no fanfare, despite sporting a cast of big name actors like Kate Winslet and Jude Law. Maybe now in awards season it’ll get a little of the attention it deserves. It’s a breath of fresh air at least, to see a critic’s group go with something different. But even the S.F. Film Critics Circle wasn’t immune to the power of Helen Mirren’s performance in The Queen. So far, she’s had a clean sweep of the Best Actress award given by every major critic’s group. She’s not far off from being a lock to win an Oscar. Here’s the San Francisco Film Critic’s Circle’s full list of winners: "Little Children" Best Director Paul Greengrass for "United 93" Best Original Screenplay "Brick" Best Adapted Screenplay "Little Children" Best Actor Sacha Baron Cohen for "Borat" Best Actress Helen Mirren for "The Queen" Best Supporting Actor Jackie Earle Haley for "Little Children" Best Supporting Actress Adriana Barraza for "Babel" Best Foreign Language Film "Pan's Labyrinth" Best Documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" Marlon Riggs Award for courage & vision in the Bay Area film community Stephen Salmons co-founder & artistic director San Francisco Silent Film Festival Special Citation in honor of Arthur Lazere "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" |
