The 5 Most Talked About Movies On Social Media May Totally Surprise You

One of the things that people love to do with social media is to discuss pop culture. For better or worse, every opinion gets voiced in reaction to each new development with little to no delay. But, sometimes, what's most interesting is not what the opinion is, but what it is that people have strong opinions about. A new survey has looked at what the most talked about films currently are online, and while it might not shock you to learn that people are talking about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it might when we tell you that the new Power Rangers film also makes the list.

The data comes from an organization called comScore who tracks social media mentions in order to compile a list of the most talked about movies. According to Deadline, the top five movies currently trending based on their data are as follows:

Suicide SquadRogue OneFantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemStar Trek BeyondPower Rangers

The top of the list is not particularly surprising. Suicide Squad is the next, and last, major comic book movie to come out this summer. The buzz surrounding it has actually been more positive than it was for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And a tie-in music video was also released last week that could have had social media talking. Next on the list we have Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Again, no real surprise here. It's Star Wars, and that's something that people will almost certainly always be talking about. The recent buzz regarding reshoots taking place might have some fans concerned, but it's just that sort of thing that gets social media going.

Star Trek Beyond

There's a significant drop in the social media conversations following second place, but it's still impressive to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in third place. With a release date almost as far out as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it shows just how popular the Harry Potter franchise really is that it's a major topic of conversation this far out. Star Trek Beyond being on the list is curious for the opposite reason. While the film has the closest release date, and so it wouldn't be all that surprising to see people talking about it, the fact is that we really haven't seen a great deal of interest in the title up to this point. So its inclusion on this list may be very good news for Paramount. It's also possible the movie is benefitting from the discussion of Star Trek fan films that has many people upset.

Of course, the most shocking item on the list is number five. While it's true that the Power Rangers movie recently made their biggest casting announcement to date, with Bryan Cranston playing the part of Zordon, the fact that the news has apparently made such big waves is a big deal. The movie has a release date further out than anything else in the top 10. If this is where the movie stands now, we can only imagine the level of interest after the first trailer hits.

Which of these is the film that you're the most interested in or curious about? Let us know in the comments.
