Can’t get enough of Chris Pratt? Well apparently the Jurassic World franchise is right behind you, as they’ve signed the star on for a sequel to the already blockbuster hit. Going into its release weekend, Jurassic World already has brought in some major bank, and now the star of the dinosaur thriller has finally opened up about whether or not he’ll be in a sequel.
Of course, this is Chris Pratt we’re talking about, so even when prompted the most straight-forward question of whether or not he’s signed on for a Jurassic sequel, he still some how gives us a witty, silly response. Chatting with Entertainment Weekly, the star was finally able to divulge that indeed he is signed on for more movies. He responded to EW’s question of a sequel:
I am. They have me for I think 38 movies or something.
Well if there’s any actor I’d like to see in 38 movies playing the same character, it’s probably Chris Pratt. And judging by Jurassic World’s early box office success, it sounds fans are pretty excited. The film continues to perform crazy well at the box office, opening with a record breaking preview which broke Universal’s all-time debut record with $18.5 million. And now with yesterday’s numbers in, Business Insider reports the combined score as a gigantic $82.3 million opening day, the third-biggest debut of all time behind Avengers: Age of Ultron ($84 million) and Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($91 million). But what makes Jurassic World’s opening even more substantial is that if you just look at Friday’s numbers, the film is the biggest "pure" opening day of all time. And the weekend has just really begun.
But, aside from the obvious reasoning to move forward on a sequel (you know, money), it sounds like Chris Pratt is there for the right reasons, and we can’t wait to see what further charisma he can bring to the franchise. The massive star is landing bigger roles left and right, is now the star of two major franchises, and is even rumored to head another one (Indiana Jones, anyone?). But when it came to Jurassic World especially, Pratt has always been a diehard fan. He told EW that one of the most exciting aspects of working on the film was that he got to meet one of his idols, Steven Spielberg. And if we want someone to stick behind the Jurassic World franchise, it is definitely someone who was a Jurassic Park fan.
With Chris Pratt already signed on for more movies and a big box office opening weekend, it is pretty much a guarantee we’ll be hearing confirmation on a sequel in the coming days. One of the younger actors in the cast, Nick Robinson told us that he’d be thrilled to make another, but didn’t foresee it happening any time soon. That ‘any time soon’ may change as the money keeps rolling in though.
