New Cloverfield Art Explains Everything

If you were disappointed by Cloverfield actually being the mystery movie’s title and the “new” poster that was just a revised version of the old teaser poster, don’t look now. Another image is being tossed around the internet and it’s the worst thing yet. It’s that key piece of art for the movie (the headless Statue of Liberty) with a synopsis for the movie, spelling out exactly what it’s about.

While this graphic art is being promoted as a new poster for the movie, it isn’t actually a poster – at least we don’t think so. It’s what pops up if you click on “about the movie” over at Cloverfieldmovie.com, the film’s official website.

I’m not letting the advertising campaign lower my interest in Cloverfield, but I have to admit disappointment at the need to spell things out for the masses, or even the existence of an official, standard corporate website. I much preferred the mystery of www.1-18-08.com, which hasn’t received any sort of update since the movie became more official. I guess the fun and games are over now that there’s less mystery around the movie. Thankfully, that release date is getting closer, so at least the end of the mystery isn’t leaving too much time before the arrival of the monster.
